In a statement released on 29 Mar 2024, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia, stressed the importance of joint responsibilities among Asian countries to maintain peace and security in the region during his visit to the Boao Forum for Asia in Boao City, Hainan Province, People’s Republic of China.
The annual conference, themed “Asia and the World: «Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities,», brought together leaders from across the continent to discuss pressing global issues. Samdech Techo emphasized that maintaining peace and security is crucial for future development and shared prosperity in the region, highlighting the need for deeper integration and better connectivity rather than decoupling and disruption.
During his visit, Samdech Techo held bilateral talks with His Excellency Li Baodong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia, as well as Chinese leaders including Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, Feng Fei, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) of Hainan Provincial Committee, and Chen Zhong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice General Manager of China Communications Construction Group.
The bilateral meetings focused on strengthening relations between Cambodia and China, including regular high-level exchanges, visits, and implementation of the Six Prioritized Areas of Diamond Cooperation. Both sides also emphasized the importance of fully implementing infrastructure projects, such as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, to boost socio-economic development.
Samdech Techo also expressed appreciation for China’s support in Cambodia’s development path, particularly following the recent senate-election, where the Cambodian People’s Party under his leadership secured a landslide victory. He was congratulated by His Excellency Zhao Leji on this occasion and invited to visit China at his earliest convenience.
Furthermore, Samdech Techo engaged in discussions with Chinese officials on tourism cooperation, research and development in the agricultural field, and infrastructure projects between Cambodia and Hainan Province.
