Cambodia Reiterates Commitment to ASEAN Cooperation and Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts

In a statement released on 11 Apr 2024, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and promoting peaceful conflict resolution within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The announcement made on 11 Apr 2024 emphasizes Cambodia's role as a champion of peace and stability in the region. The ministry stressed that ASEAN's values, including democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, are essential for sustainable development and regional prosperity.

"ASEAN is not just a community but also an asset," said H.E. Prak Phal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. "We must continue to work together to build a stronger, more resilient ASEAN that promotes peace, stability, and economic growth."

To achieve this goal, Cambodia proposed several initiatives, including enhancing regional security cooperation, promoting people-to-people diplomacy, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region.

The ministry also highlighted its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with neighboring countries, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, and tourism. These partnerships are seen as crucial for fostering economic growth and promoting regional stability.

Cambodia's commitment to ASEAN cooperation is reflected in its chairmanship of the regional organization in 2022, during which it successfully hosted the 40th ASEAN Summit. The country has also played a key role in promoting regional peace and security through its participation in various international organizations and initiatives.

In conclusion, Cambodia's reaffirmed commitment to ASEAN cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution reflects its dedication to building a more stable and prosperous region. As ASEAN continues to evolve and grow, Cambodia remains a strong advocate for the organization's core values and principles.
