Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to Visit Cambodia in Bid to Strengthen Ties

In a significant development that underscores the growing diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Japan, Her Excellency Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 5 to 6 July 2024. The visit is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening bilateral relations and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

On 01 Jul 2024, the Ministry announced that Her Excellency Kamikawa Yoko had accepted an invitation from His Excellency Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to pay a two-day official visit to Cambodia. During her stay, Minister Kamikawa will engage in high-level meetings with key officials, including Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The visit is expected to further solidify the strong people-to-people ties between Japan and Cambodia, as well as enhance cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, education, culture, and disaster management. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries aims to promote mutual understanding and trust, while also fostering a strong economic partnership.

During her visit, Minister Kamikawa will hold bilateral meetings with His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, as well as separate courtesy calls on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet. These engagements are expected to provide a platform for discussing key areas of cooperation, including economic development, trade facilitation, and disaster risk management.

The visit by Her Excellency Kamikawa Yoko marks the latest in a series of high-level exchanges between Cambodia and Japan, which have aimed to deepen their partnership and promote people-to-people diplomacy.
