In a significant move, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Coordination Committee for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, received a courtesy call from Atul Khare, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, on 25 Jul 2024. The meeting marked an essential step in bolstering Cambodia's role in regional peacekeeping operations.
During the visit, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Sophea emphasized Cambodia's expanding commitment to peacekeeping operations and its strong desire to develop close cooperation with the UN through initiatives such as the UN Triangular Partnership Programme. He also expressed appreciation for the UN's support in other areas of peacekeeping, including Green Peacekeeping and Business Seminar.
The Under-Secretary-General, Atul Khare, extended his deep gratitude for Cambodia's substantial contributions to UN peacekeeping missions. Khare also outlined potential areas of cooperation between the two sides, with a focus on the Triangular Partnership Programme with Japan and the Republic of Korea scheduled for early next year.
