ASEAN and International Community Commend Cambodia’s Role in Promoting Regional Peace and Stability

In a statement released on 27 Nov 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced by Israel and Lebanon, highlighting Cambodia’s commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.

The announcement made on 27 Nov 2024 comes as Cambodia continues to play an active role in ASEAN diplomacy, fostering dialogue and cooperation among regional nations. As a key player in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Cambodia has been instrumental in mediating disputes and promoting economic integration among its member states.

The Ministry’s spokesperson expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement will lead to a permanent cessation of fighting across the Israeli-Lebanese border, emphasizing the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts. This stance aligns with Cambodia’s long-standing commitment to promoting regional peace and stability through diplomatic efforts.

Cambodia has consistently demonstrated its support for international peace initiatives, having played a key role in mediating the 1991 Paris Peace Accords that brought an end to the Vietnam War. The country has also been an active participant in various UN-led peacekeeping missions, including those in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

In addition to its regional contributions, Cambodia has maintained strong bilateral relations with countries around the world. The Ministry’s efforts to strengthen these relationships are aimed at promoting economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and people-to-people diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s endorsement of the Israeli-Lebanese ceasefire agreement underscores its commitment to promoting regional peace and stability. As a responsible and engaged member of the international community, Cambodia will continue to play a key role in fostering dialogue and cooperation among nations.
