Thailand Boosts Regional Health Cooperation with Mahidol University

In a significant development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Thailand has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahidol University to enhance the capacity building of medical and health science personnel in Thailand and other developing countries.

On 12 June 2025, Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency, and Professor Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, President of Mahidol University, jointly signed the MoU for the MFA – MU Enhancing Thailand Capacity Building Hub Project. This extension of the initial cooperation framework aims to promote knowledge sharing and capacity building in areas such as health sciences, science and technology, and humanities and social sciences.

The new MoU extends the scope of cooperation to include trilateral cooperation, supporting Thailand's strategic partner countries, including Lao PDR, Cambodia, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Bhutan, Nepal, and countries in the South Pacific region. This initiative reinforces Thailand's role in advancing sustainable development within the international community and aligns with its medical diplomacy efforts.

The partnership will facilitate exchanges of knowledge and experience between experts from Mahidol University and technologically advanced partner countries. This collaboration is expected to enhance the capacity of medical professionals in Thailand and other developing countries, ultimately contributing to improved healthcare outcomes and sustainable development.

Thailand's commitment to regional health cooperation reflects its dedication to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. The MOFA will continue to support initiatives that foster greater understanding and cooperation among nations, ensuring a healthier and more prosperous future for all.

The signing of this MoU marks an important milestone in Thailand's capacity building efforts and underscores its leadership role in regional health cooperation. As the world grapples with complex global challenges, partnerships like this one will be crucial in addressing the complex interplay between health, science, technology, and sustainable development.
