India and Cambodia Strengthen Ties in Bilateral Relations

A high-level visit by Shri Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, to the Kingdom of Cambodia, has strengthened ties between the two nations. During her official visit from July 7-8, 2025, MoS(PM) engaged with key leaders, including His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, H.E. Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and H.E. Hun Manet, Prime Minister.

The visit reaffirmed India's strong friendship with Cambodia, rooted in shared cultural and historical heritage, as well as a robust development partnership. Both sides discussed avenues for cooperation in various sectors, including areas of mutual concern and interest. MoS(PM) also emphasized the importance of capacity building and human resources development, which is a key component of their bilateral partnership.

Over 3,000 Cambodian officials have already benefited from training in India, showcasing the depth of their partnership. MoS(PM) met with ITEC & ICCR Alumni in Cambodia, attended by dignitaries and senior officials, to discuss India's commitment to capacity building and human resources development.

The Minister also interacted with the Indian community in Phnom Penh, expressing appreciation for their contributions to strengthening ties between India and their host country. She apprised them of transformative initiatives by the Government of India.

During her visit to Siem Reap, MoS(PM) visited Angkor Wat, the world's largest temple complex, highlighting heritage conservation as a key aspect of India-Cambodia relations. India was the first country to provide assistance for the conservation and restoration of Angkor Wat in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Minister also paid a visit to the Ta Prohm Temple, where work is being executed under Phase III of the restoration and conservation project by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Additionally, she visited the Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Asian Traditional Textile Museum, which was set up with India's assistance, showcasing the rich textile traditions of the Mekong and Ganga regions.

The visit marked a significant milestone in India-Cambodia relations, with both countries committed to fostering stronger ties in various sectors.
