The United States has hosted the signing of a historic Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Government of Rwanda, marking an important step towards peace and stability in the region.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened the signing ceremony, which was attended by key officials from both nations. Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner represented the DRC, while Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe signed on behalf of Rwanda. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, Senior Advisor for Africa Massad Boulos, and Ambassador Troy Fitrell also joined the Secretary of State.
The Declaration builds upon the efforts of regional leaders, including those of the African Union, to outline a pathway towards peace, stability, and integrated economic development in the eastern DRC region. The agreement aims to bring an end to conflict and allow the region to reach its full potential for growth and prosperity.
