The Trump Administration’s approach to immigration has been a subject of controversy, with many Democrats and advocacy groups opposing the administration’s policies. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently spoke out about the administration’s efforts to crack down on shadow organizations that promote free speech on college campuses and move people out of the United States who do not share American values.

According to Secretary Rubio, the controversy surrounding Mahmoud Khalil, a student at Columbia University with a green card, highlights the importance of addressing this issue. Khalil was detained after engaging in protest activities that violated the law and sympathizing openly with terror attacks by Hamas.

“The idea that people are somehow owed passage to the United States and permanent membership in our society is a bizarre supposition,” said Secretary Rubio. “It’s an incentive-based approach that led to the immigration crisis we had over the last few years.”

The administration has taken a legal position that it is up to the Salvadorans whether to return a migrant who was deported back to El Salvador for further due process concerns. However, opponents of the administration argue that this approach is not in line with the law and that the migrant should be allowed to stay.

Secretary Rubio emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration laws and ensuring that people are not incentivized to enter the country illegally. He noted that the administration’s policies have been successful in reducing illegal immigration, resulting in a secure border.

“The incentives are no longer to come; the incentives are not to come,” said Secretary Rubio. “It’s because people aren’t coming anymore because they know that the President is serious about enforcing our immigration laws.”

The Trump Administration’s approach to immigration has been met with resistance from many Democrats and advocacy groups. However, Secretary Rubio remains committed to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring that the United States remains a country of opportunity for those who share its values.
