The United States has announced new sanctions targeting six entities based in the People’s Republic of China, including Hong Kong, for their involvement in procuring critical components for Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and ballistic missile programs. This move is part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to curb Iran’s military expansion and destabilizing activities in the Middle East and beyond.
Cracking Down on Iran’s Procurement Network
The sanctions, imposed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, specifically disrupt efforts by the Iranian entity Pishtazan Kavosh Gostar Boshra (PKGB) to re-establish its procurement network. PKGB has been actively acquiring sensitive technology from foreign suppliers to fuel Iran’s growing arsenal of drones and ballistic missiles.
“The United States remains committed to exposing and dismantling Iran’s illicit procurement networks. We will continue using all available tools to prevent Iran from obtaining critical components for its missile and UAV programs, which threaten regional stability and international security,” said Tammy Bruce, U.S. Department Spokesperson.
