U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Kenyan President William Ruto, expressing appreciation for Kenya’s leadership in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti and its continued efforts to promote peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Kenya’s Role in Haiti’s Stabilization Efforts

During the call, Secretary Rubio lauded Kenya’s commitment to leading the MSS mission, which remains fully operational in Haiti. The mission, supported by the United Nations and key international partners, was deployed to restore security, curb gang violence, and assist in stabilizing Haiti’s government institutions.

“Kenya’s leadership in Haiti demonstrates a steadfast commitment to global peace and security,” Secretary Rubio stated. “Their courage and professionalism in this challenging mission are making a real difference.”

The U.S. has been a strong supporter of the MSS initiative, providing financial assistance, logistical support, and intelligence-sharing to enhance the mission’s effectiveness. Secretary Rubio reaffirmed continued U.S. backing for Kenya’s efforts, including additional training and resources for Kenyan security forces deployed in Haiti.

Kenya’s Contributions to Peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Beyond Haiti, Secretary Rubio also commended Kenya’s active diplomatic and security efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). As a leading member of the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF), Kenya has played a key role in peacekeeping and conflict mediation in the war-torn eastern regions of the DRC.

President Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s dedication to fostering stability in the DRC, emphasizing the importance of African-led solutions to African conflicts. Secretary Rubio welcomed these efforts and pledged continued U.S. support for regional peace initiatives, humanitarian aid, and economic development programs aimed at addressing the root causes of conflict.

Strengthening U.S.-Kenya Relations

The call also underscored the strong U.S.-Kenya bilateral partnership, with both leaders emphasizing their commitment to regional security, economic cooperation, and democratic governance. Secretary Rubio and President Ruto discussed potential areas for enhanced collaboration in counterterrorism, trade, and infrastructure development.

“The United States deeply values its partnership with Kenya,” Secretary Rubio stated. “Together, we will continue to work toward a more secure, stable, and prosperous future.”

The conversation marked another step in deepening diplomatic ties between Washington and Nairobi, reinforcing Kenya’s position as a key U.S. ally in Africa.

Looking Ahead

Kenya’s leadership in international peacekeeping and regional conflict resolution continues to earn global recognition. The MSS mission in Haiti and peacekeeping efforts in the DRC highlight Kenya’s growing role as a stabilizing force in global security efforts.

With continued U.S. support, Kenya is poised to play an even greater role in advancing peace, security, and economic development—both on the African continent and beyond.
