Marco Rubio Sworn In as Secretary of State, Emphasizes a Transformative Foreign Policy Agenda

“Marco is one of my favorite people in Washington,” Vice President Vance remarked. “As the son of Cuban immigrants, he understands the distinctive priorities of this administration and the need for a departure from past foreign policy approaches.”

Rubio, previously a senator from Florida, expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and colleagues. His wife, Jeanette, and their four children were present for the ceremony. Rubio credited their unwavering support as the foundation of his career, saying, “The most important job I’ll ever have is being a husband and father, and I’m proud to share this moment with them.”

Rubio also extended thanks to Senator Jim Risch, who helped expedite his confirmation process, which passed with unanimous Senate approval.

Prioritizing American Interests

In his first remarks as Secretary of State, Rubio outlined the administration’s vision for U.S. foreign policy, which he described as transformative and focused on strengthening the nation. “President Trump was elected to keep promises,” he said. “At the State Department, everything we do must answer three critical questions: Does it make us stronger? Does it make us safer? Does it make us more prosperous? If it doesn’t, we won’t do it.”

Rubio emphasized that the administration seeks to promote peace through strength while adhering to core American values. Referring to President Trump’s inaugural address the previous day, Rubio highlighted the goal of advancing global peace without compromising national priorities.

“This is a new era,” Rubio declared. “The President has given us a clear mandate, and we are committed to achieving his vision to make the world a safer place while prioritizing the American people.”

A Moment of Reflection

Concluding his remarks, Rubio expressed his deep faith, acknowledging God as the guiding force in his life and career. Speaking briefly in Spanish to honor his heritage and Cuban-American supporters, he also injected humor into the proceedings, lightening the tone during an otherwise formal event.

“This extraordinary opportunity is a blessing,” he said. “We are humbled by the responsibility and will work tirelessly to deliver on the promises made to the American people.”

The ceremony concluded with applause, signaling bipartisan optimism for Rubio’s tenure as Secretary of State.
