Thailand Strengthen Ties with Myanmar and China to Combat Telecommunications Fraud

In a significant development in the region, Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to combating telecommunications fraud through a joint meeting with Myanmar and China. The 2nd Thailand–Myanmar–China Coordination Meeting on Combating Telecommunications Fraud took place in Nay Pyi Taw, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on July 4, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Aung Kyaw Kyaw, Deputy Union Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar, with representatives from Thailand led by H.E. Mr. Dusit Manapan, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Chinese delegation was headed by H.E. Mr. Liu Zhongyi, Assistant Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China.

The meeting aimed to strengthen law enforcement coordination among the three countries, enhance information exchange, and expand joint investigations to tackle transboundary crime more effectively. This cooperation is expected to extend beyond Myanmar and China to other neighboring countries in the region, addressing the growing threat of telecommunications fraud and online scams.

This development builds upon the outcomes of the 1st Coordination Meeting held in Thailand on February 28, 2025, which marked the beginning of joint collaboration between Thailand, Myanmar, and China in combating transboundary crime. The success of this initial meeting has led to further efforts to enhance regional cooperation in addressing common challenges.

Thailand's participation in this coordination meeting reflects its commitment to regional stability and security. By working together with neighboring countries, Thailand seeks to create a safer and more secure environment for its citizens and the international community.

The significance of this development lies in its potential to address a pressing concern in the region. Telecommunications fraud and online scams pose serious challenges to individual nations and the global community alike, making concerted efforts from regional partners essential.

In conclusion, Thailand's role in promoting regional cooperation on combating telecommunications fraud is an important step towards creating a more secure environment for all parties involved.
