Thailand Leads Development Partners on Field Visit to Address Humanitarian Challenges along Thailand-Myanmar Border

In a statement released on 24 Jul 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a group of Development Partners on a field visit to Mae Sot District, Tak Province, to address the situation and challenges on the ground. The delegation was comprised of representatives from four embassies based in Thailand, one embassy based in Myanmar, two foreign cooperation agencies, and six international organizations.

The visit aimed to exchange insights with civil society organizations providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations along the Thailand-Myanmar borders, including Suwannimit Foundation, Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU), M-FUND, Help Without Frontiers, and the Administrative Committee of the Mae La Temporary Shelter. These organizations typically receive support from donor countries and are now adversely affected by the global trend of humanitarian aid reduction.

The delegation was briefed on the situation and challenges on the grounds from relevant government agencies, including Mae Sot Hospital, Umphang Hospital, and Tak Provincial Public Health Office. They later exchanged views with the Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced Persons in Thailand (CCSDPT), such as TBC, IRC, and Save the Children, who are aiding the Myanmar Displaced Persons (MDPs) in the Mae La Temporary Shelter.

The visit was a significant step towards strengthening cooperation between Thailand and its Development Partners to address the humanitarian challenges along the border. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to supporting the efforts of civil society organizations and relevant government agencies to provide assistance to vulnerable populations.

This field visit is part of Thailand's ongoing efforts to promote regional stability and security, as well as to support the development of the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work closely with its Development Partners to address the humanitarian challenges along the border and promote sustainable development in the region.

In conclusion, the visit by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Mae Sot District, Tak Province, highlights Thailand's commitment to addressing the humanitarian challenges along the Thailand-Myanmar border. The Ministry will continue to work closely with its Development Partners to promote regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
