Thai Diplomacy Takes Center Stage at Ambassadors and Consuls-General Meeting

In a statement released on 10 Jun 2025, Prime Minister H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra delivered policy guidance to ambassadors and consuls-general at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Meeting of the Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General. The event, which took place under the theme “Proactive and People-Centred Diplomacy: From Policy to Practice,” brought together 98 overseas missions’ Thai representatives, MFA executives, and “Team Thailand” agencies abroad.

The Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of Thai embassies and consulates-general on the international stage. These diplomatic outposts were tasked with brainstorming and reinforcing Thailand’s foreign policy strategies to maximize benefits for the country and its people in a rapidly evolving global landscape. The Prime Minister highlighted two key areas: enhancing Thailand’s strengths, particularly its friendly-to-all nation positioning, and seizing new opportunities through proactive economic diplomacy.

Thailand’s foreign policy direction should focus on building upon its diplomatic strengths, promoting peace and common prosperity, while also driving current growth engines such as export and service sectors, and igniting new growth engines by attracting investments in target industries. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening the grassroots economy to uplift the Thai people’s quality of life and livelihood.

At the meeting, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, outlined four key principles for advancing Thai foreign policy: maintaining strategic balance with major powers through a multiple alignment approach, taking part in shaping the emerging international order through various partnerships and frameworks, enhancing international cooperation to maintain regional stability and security, and driving proactive economic diplomacy.

These key messages underscore Thailand’s commitment to being an active promoter of peace and common prosperity in the current global context. By embracing proactivity and people-centred approaches, Thailand aims to strengthen its diplomatic presence, foster strong relationships with major powers, and drive economic growth while promoting regional stability and security.

The 2025 Meeting of the Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General marks an important milestone in Thailand’s foreign policy efforts. As the country continues to navigate complex global dynamics, it is crucial that Thailand’s diplomatic corps remains agile, proactive, and committed to its people-centric approach.

In conclusion, Thailand’s emphasis on proactivity and people-centred diplomacy reflects a deep understanding of the evolving global landscape. By embracing these principles, Thailand aims to strengthen its position as a friendly-to-all nation and drive economic growth while promoting regional stability and security.
