In a significant display of its commitment to addressing the pressing issue of climate change, Singapore has reaffirmed its leadership role in regional efforts to combat global warming. The Foreign Ministry announced today that it will be hosting an international conference on climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies for the Asia-Pacific region.
The two-day conference, which is scheduled to take place from March 15 to 16 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, aims to bring together key stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to share best practices and innovative solutions in addressing climate change. The event is expected to attract over 500 delegates from more than 20 countries.
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan, will deliver a keynote address on the country’s vision for a sustainable future, highlighting its own achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean energy technologies.
The conference follows Singapore’s commitment to playing an active role in regional and global efforts to combat climate change. In 2020, Singapore launched the Singapore Climate Action Plan, which sets out a comprehensive framework for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.
Singapore’s engagement on climate change is part of its broader strategy to strengthen regional cooperation and address shared challenges. The country has been an active participant in various international forums, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The conference also coincides with Singapore’s hosting of the International ESG Forum, which brings together global leaders to discuss the role of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in driving sustainable growth.
By fostering regional collaboration and knowledge-sharing on climate change, Singapore aims to contribute to a more resilient and sustainable Asia-Pacific region.
