Singapore Steps Up Efforts to Counter Global Cyber Threats

SINGAPORE has reiterated its commitment to enhancing regional and international cooperation in the fight against cyber threats, as it hosts a key meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Cyber Security Ministerial.

The two-day ministerial conference, held from June 15-16 at the Marina Bay Sands, brought together cybersecurity experts and officials from APEC member economies to discuss strategies for protecting against cyber attacks and promoting cooperation on digital issues.

At the heart of Singapore’s efforts is its own National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), which has been leading initiatives to strengthen the country’s cyber resilience. The agency has also established partnerships with other countries, including the United States and Australia, to share best practices and expertise in combating cyber threats.

The APEC Cyber Security Ministerial is a significant platform for Singapore to engage with its regional partners on this critical issue, said Mr. S. Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Co-Chair of the APEC Cyber Security Ministerial.

“We recognize that cybersecurity is a key component of economic growth and competitiveness, as well as a vital aspect of national security,” he said. “By working together, we can build stronger cyber defenses, enhance our ability to respond to emerging threats, and promote a safer digital economy for all.”

The conference also provided an opportunity for Singapore to share its expertise in the development of cyber threat intelligence capabilities, cybersecurity frameworks, and incident response strategies.

In addition, the APEC Cyber Security Ministerial has set the stage for the establishment of a Regional Cybersecurity Centre (RCC), which will serve as a hub for information sharing and collaboration among APEC member economies on cyber security issues.

The RCC is seen as an important step in strengthening regional cooperation on cybersecurity and promoting a more secure digital economy across the Asia-Pacific region.

Through its efforts, Singapore aims to cement its reputation as a leader in the fight against global cyber threats and contribute to the development of a safer, more resilient digital economy for all.

Conclusion

The APEC Cyber Security Ministerial highlights Singapore’s commitment to addressing the growing threat of cyber attacks and promoting regional cooperation on this critical issue. Through its leadership and expertise, Singapore aims to strengthen regional cybersecurity capabilities and promote a safer digital economy across the Asia-Pacific region.
