Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been conferred with Cyprus's highest honour, the "Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III", by President H.E. Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia on June 16, 2025.
Accepting the award on behalf of India's 1.4 billion people, Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President, the Government, and the people of Cyprus for this prestigious recognition. He dedicated the award to the longstanding warm ties between India and Cyprus, which are built on shared values and mutual trust.
Prime Minister Modi noted that the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III was a symbol of the unwavering commitment of the two countries to peace, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity. He emphasized that the award represented a renewed commitment to strengthening and diversifying the partnership between India and Cyprus.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India's age-old philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", or "The World is one Family", which guides his vision for global peace and progress. This philosophy, he said, was at the core of India's diplomatic efforts to promote peace and cooperation with other nations.
The conferral of this high honour marks an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus, underscoring the strong ties that exist between the two countries. The President's gesture is seen as a testament to the warm and friendly relations between the two nations.
