The Indian government has strongly dismissed the findings of a recent report issued by a Canadian commission regarding alleged foreign interference. The report, which makes insinuations about India’s involvement in activities of purported interference, has been met with firm rejection from Indian authorities.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it is, in fact, Canada that has repeatedly engaged in interference in India’s internal matters. The official highlighted that such actions have contributed to an environment facilitating illegal migration and the growth of organized criminal networks, posing significant security concerns.
“India categorically rejects the allegations made in the report,” the MEA spokesperson asserted. “Rather than making unsubstantiated claims, Canada must address the systemic issues within its own jurisdiction, particularly those enabling illegal migration and fostering organized crime.”
The Indian government further emphasized that the continued support for elements promoting unlawful activities and undermining bilateral relations should be reconsidered. Officials pointed to past instances where concerns had been raised regarding individuals and groups operating from Canadian soil, allegedly engaging in activities that threaten India’s sovereignty and security.
Relations between India and Canada have been strained in recent years due to diplomatic disagreements and concerns over extremist elements allegedly finding refuge in Canada. While both nations have strong economic and cultural ties, recurring tensions over security and immigration policies have created friction in diplomatic engagements.
As India rejects the report’s assertions, officials reiterate the importance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect in addressing shared challenges, rather than engaging in reports that could further strain relations. The Indian government expects that Canada will take appropriate steps to prevent the misuse of its policies and frameworks that inadvertently enable illicit activities.
The MEA concluded its statement by reaffirming India’s commitment to maintaining cooperative international relations based on transparency, respect for sovereignty, and a shared responsibility to combat transnational crime and illegal migration.
