3rd ASEAN-India Music Festival Celebrates Cultural Harmony

The 3rd ASEAN-India Music Festival concluded with resounding success at Purana Quila, New Delhi, after three days of electrifying performances from 29 November to 1 December 2024. Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with Seher, the festival highlighted the vibrant cultural ties between India and ASEAN nations.

The festival was inaugurated by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita, in the presence of ambassadors and high commissioners from ASEAN countries. Addressing the gathering, Shri Margherita emphasized the role of cultural exchanges in strengthening regional partnerships and fostering mutual understanding.

This year holds special significance as it marks the 10th anniversary of India’s ‘Act East Policy,’ a cornerstone of its engagement with Southeast Asia. To commemorate this milestone, a series of people-centric events were announced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the 21st ASEAN-India Summit in October in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The ASEAN-India Music Festival was a centerpiece of these celebrations.

Over the three days, Purana Quila came alive with performances by 10 bands from ASEAN member states and five bands from India. The artists captivated an audience of over 15,000 with their powerful and diverse musical expressions, showcasing the shared cultural heritage and contemporary creativity that bind the two regions.

The event demonstrated the enduring civilizational links between ASEAN and India, built on centuries of cultural, commercial, and human exchanges. The festival also provided a platform for fostering people-to-people connections, further enriching the partnership between India and its ASEAN counterparts.

The ASEAN-India Music Festival not only celebrated music but also underscored the role of culture as a bridge in international diplomacy. As the last note echoed through the historic walls of Purana Quila, the festival left an indelible mark on the hearts of attendees, promising a brighter, more harmonious future for ASEAN-India relations.
