Canadian Minister to Join Global Efforts on Israeli-Palestinian Conflict at UN Conference

In a move aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Anita Anand, will attend the upcoming United Nations High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. The conference, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, will take place in New York from July 28 to 30, 2025.

Minister Anand’s participation underscores Canada’s commitment to advancing a two-state solution that guarantees peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians. She will engage with her counterparts on the most pressing issue facing Gaza – the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian disaster – which must be resolved immediately. While acknowledging the Israeli government’s decision to lift some restrictions on aid, Minister Anand will reiterate Canada’s call for the safe, unhindered, and sustained delivery of humanitarian assistance at scale.

Canada has been a strong supporter of the international community’s efforts to address the crisis in Gaza. Since the beginning of the current war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, Canada has allocated over $315 million in funding for international assistance to address the urgent humanitarian and resilience needs of vulnerable civilians in this crisis. The country’s funding aims to provide food, water, emergency health care, protection services, and other life-saving assistance.

Minister Anand will also engage her counterparts on matters of relevance to the “Narrative for Peace” Working Group, which Canada co-chairs alongside Qatar and Mexico. This group aims to foster positive dialogue, mutual understanding, and a shared commitment to peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

During her time in New York, Minister Anand will hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts, senior officials, and international partners to exchange perspectives and ensure continued cooperation on the situation in the Middle East.

The conference comes as the international community continues to work towards an immediate and sustainable ceasefire that protects civilians, including aid workers, and the unconditional release of all hostages. Minister Anand’s participation highlights Canada’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
