In a significant development, Cambodia's Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet will embark on an official visit to Malaysia from February 27, 2024. The visit is seen as a crucial step in deepening the bilateral relationship between the two nations and promoting cooperation in various sectors.
On 26 Feb 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Samdech Thipadei would be accompanied by senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Ministers SUN Chanthol and SOK Chenda Sophea, as well as business leaders from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. The delegation will also include key government officials.
During his visit, Samdech Thipadei will receive a Royal Audience from His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong XVII Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, King of Malaysia, at the Istana Negara. He will also hold meetings with high-ranking government officials, including Senator Datuk Mutang Tagal, President of the Senate, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Johari bin Abdul.
The visit's primary focus is on strengthening bilateral ties in areas such as politics-security, trade and investment, tourism, labor, halal food industry, and financial innovation. Samdech Thipadei will also attend the Cambodia-Malaysia Business Forum, where he will deliver a keynote address and witness the signing of two MoUs covering trade cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce.
Notably, the visit is seen as an opportunity for both nations to enhance their cooperation in the region and contribute to ASEAN's economic integration. The upcoming meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are expected to foster greater understanding and collaboration on regional issues.
