In a move to deepen bilateral relations and explore mutually beneficial cooperation, the Kingdom of Cambodia will be represented at the upcoming ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, will lead a high-level delegation to the summit on October 20, 2023.
The announcement was made on 18 Oct 2023 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The GCC Summit is an opportunity for ASEAN and GCC leaders to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, smart cities, energy, counter-terrorism, and tourism. The summit will result in two outcome documents: a Joint Statement of the Summit and an ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation (2024-2028).
During his visit, Prime Minister Thipadei will engage in bilateral meetings with foreign dignitaries in Riyadh, aiming to foster stronger ties between Cambodia and GCC member states. The delegation accompanying the Prime Minister includes Deputy Prime Minister SOK Chenda Sophea, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and senior ministers, key government officials, and business leaders from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce.
The ASEAN-GCC Summit represents a significant platform for Cambodia to promote its interests and enhance regional cooperation. With the Gulf region playing an increasingly important role in global trade and commerce, Cambodia seeks to leverage this opportunity to strengthen its economic ties with GCC member states.
