Cambodia Extends Support to Myanmar Amid Ongoing Political Crisis

In a statement released on 29 Dec 2023, His Excellency Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, extended congratulations to His Excellency Thit Linn Ohn, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Cambodia, on successfully completing his diplomatic mission during the Ambassador’s farewell courtesy call.

The two sides highlighted with satisfaction the close relations between Cambodia and Myanmar, built on solid foundations of long-standing friendship, solidarity, and cooperation, especially through high-level exchanges between the two countries’ leaders. The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the Ambassador on Cambodia’s historic success in chairing ASEAN in 2022 and hosting the 32nd SEA Games in 2023.

The Ambassador praised the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former prime minister, for leading Cambodia to peace and remarkable development as well as the performance of the new Cabinet, led by Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister, which is firmly moving forward to achieving a high-middle income status in the near future. He also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for providing substantial humanitarian assistance, vaccines, and medical equipment to Myanmar during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Deputy Prime Minister praised the Ambassador’s active contribution to strengthening the friendship and good cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador highlighted that Cambodian leaders have attached great importance to bilateral relations and made every effort to address the political crisis in Myanmar under the ASEAN framework and as close friends, contributing to peace, stability, and development in Myanmar.
