In a significant move to deepen its economic and diplomatic ties, the Kingdom of Cambodia will co-chair the 11th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation (IGC) with Russia via video conference on April 28, 2025.

On April 27, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs PRAK Sokhonn would be joined by Oksana Lut, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, to co-chair the 11th IGC. The meeting aims to review progress made in the joint cooperation partnership between Cambodia and Russia over the past few years and set future directions to further advance their long-standing relations.

The two-day conference will provide a platform for in-depth discussions on avenues for fostering and deepening ties in various fields, including economy, trade and investment, science and technology. The event is seen as an important step in strengthening Cambodia's position in the region and promoting its integration into the global community.

Cambodia and Russia have enjoyed close relations since their diplomatic ties were established in 1993. In recent years, the two countries have strengthened their cooperation in various areas, including trade, investment, and education. The 11th IGC is expected to build upon this momentum, paving the way for new opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit.

The video conference will take place at a convenient time for both parties, allowing them to engage with each other remotely while maintaining the same level of interaction and engagement that is typical of in-person meetings. This flexible format enables Cambodia and Russia to maintain their busy schedules while still making progress on their joint cooperation initiatives.

The successful co-chairship of the 11th IGC by Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn and Oksana Lut highlights the commitment of both countries to strengthening their bilateral ties. The event underscores Cambodia's role as a key player in regional and international affairs, particularly within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) framework.

In conclusion, the 11th IGC marks an important milestone in the development of Cambodia-Russia relations, with significant implications for economic cooperation and diplomatic ties between the two nations. As Cambodia continues to navigate its role on the global stage, this event serves as a testament to its commitment to fostering strong partnerships that promote mutual prosperity and growth.
