Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, held a summit meeting with His Excellency KISHIDA Fumio, the Prime Minister of Japan, at the Japan’s Prime Minister’s Office on December 18, marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The two leaders pledged to work closely together to further strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership through concrete multifaceted cooperation projects. They acknowledged the importance of strengthening cooperation in various areas including the economy, trade and investment, infrastructure, defense and security, energy, digital development, demining and public health.
The two prime ministers concurred to accelerate the development of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port as a regional hub, as agreed by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen and Prime Minister KISHIDA during his official visit to Cambodia in March 2022. Samdech Thipadei requested Japan's support on the proposal to develop the port into a regional logistics hub.
Japan pledged a 20 billion yen loan to assist Cambodia’s healthcare sector in rural areas, which is expected to have a significant impact on improving healthcare services for Cambodians. The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, including the situation in Myanmar, the Korean Peninsula, and the Ukraine-Israel conflicts.
