Cambodia’s President to Attend High-Level Boao Forum in China

In a statement released on 25 Mar 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, will lead a high-level delegation to the Boao Forum for Asia's annual conference in China's Hainan Province from 27 to 29 March 2024.

This marks a significant development in Cambodia's diplomatic efforts, as Samdech Techo will engage with senior Chinese leaders, including His Excellency Li Baodong, Secretary General of the Boao Forum. The President is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the opening of the conference, which focuses on the theme "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities."

The high-level delegation accompanying Samdech Techo includes key government officials and leaders from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, such as His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister SUN Chanthol, First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce. Senior officials from the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, led by His Excellency HEM Vanndy, will also join the delegation.

The Boao Forum is a premier international platform for discussing major development issues and promoting regional cooperation. During his visit, Samdech Techo aims to foster cooperation in technology and innovation with China, as well as strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and China.

On the sidelines of the forum, Samdech Techo will meet senior Chinese leaders including His Excellency Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, His Excellency General He Weidong, Member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau and Second Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission. This meeting highlights Cambodia's commitment to strengthening ties with a key regional player.

The high-level engagement underscores Cambodia's role in promoting regional cooperation and addressing common challenges facing Asia and the world. As an active participant in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Cambodia seeks to strengthen its relationships with neighboring countries and promote regional stability.

In conclusion, Samdech Techo's attendance at the Boao Forum represents a significant moment in Cambodia's diplomatic efforts to foster cooperation with key regional partners and address pressing global issues.
