In a statement released on 26 May 2025, His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, highlighted the outcomes of the recent high-level diplomatic meetings held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
On 25 May 2025, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), the 29" ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, the 36" ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting, and the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Meeting. These meetings focused on strengthening regional cooperation, enhancing political-security community building, and promoting sustainable development.
The AMM deliberated on the progress of ASEAN Community building under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship, emphasizing inclusivity and sustainability. The meeting welcomed the finalization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and its Strategic Plans for adoption at the 46th ASEAN Summit. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister expressed full support for the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) in Myanmar, highlighting the importance of addressing the crisis through constructive dialogue and strengthened multilateral cooperation.
The 29" APSC Council Meeting reviewed progress in implementing the APSC Blueprint 2025 and discussed recent developments in sectoral bodies under the APSC pillar. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister stressed the significance of ASEAN’s collective commitment, its role in laying the foundation for the upcoming APSC Strategic Plan, and the need for constructive dialogue, diplomacy, and stronger multilateral cooperation to manage disputes and prevent conflicts.
The 36" ACC Meeting underscored the importance of finalizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which lays the foundation for a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable ASEAN. The meeting discussed Timor-Leste's membership in ASEAN and expressed support for enhancing intra-ASEAN trade and investment. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the significance of early conclusion of Timor-Leste's accession as a full member of ASEAN.
The ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting reviewed preparations for the Second ASEAN-GCC Summit, scheduled for 27 May 2025. The ministers exchanged updates on recent developments within their respective regions and shared perspectives on future directions of inter-regional cooperation. His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of institutionalizing engagement between ASEAN and the GCC.
In bilateral meetings, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister engaged with his counterparts from Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, and Malaysia to discuss potential areas of cooperation, including trade promotion, infrastructure development, connectivity, agricultural collaboration, joint efforts to address cross-border security challenges, and regional issues of mutual interest.
