Singapore played a key role in promoting regional stability and cooperation during the recent Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The country’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan, chaired the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which aimed to address pressing regional issues such as maritime security, economic integration, and climate change.

“We must work together to address the impact of climate change on our region,” said Minister Balakrishnan. “Singapore will continue to lead by example with our own sustainability initiatives and support efforts to build resilience among our ASEAN partners.”

A range of key agreements and initiatives were signed or launched during the summit, including a framework for cooperation on counter-terrorism, a regional strategy for reducing maritime pollution, and a plan to promote economic integration through trade and investment.
- Agricultural Cooperation Framework: This agreement aims to enhance cooperation between Singapore and ASEAN member states in the areas of agriculture, food safety, and animal health.
- Regional Strategy for Reducing Maritime Pollution: This strategy sets out a range of measures to reduce marine pollution and promote sustainable shipping practices in Southeast Asia.
