The 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) was held in New Delhi on May 8, 2025, with a focus on strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, and Dr. Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the JCM, both sides reviewed the entire spectrum of their bilateral relations, including cooperation on trade and economic issues, agriculture, healthcare, cultural exchanges, connectivity, and people-to-people ties. Regional and global developments of mutual interest were also discussed, with the Indian side briefing the Iranian delegation on the cross-border linkages of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Both India and Iran strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and called for enhanced regional cooperation to combat the threat. The two countries welcomed the signing of MoUs on Medical Products Regulation and Implementation of the Bilateral Agreement on Customs Cooperation.
The meeting also saw agreements on adopting a humanitarian approach to issues concerning prisoners, fishermen, seafarers, and students, reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation in multilateral fora. During the visit, the Iranian Foreign Minister met with Honorable Rashtrapatiji and held a meeting with the National Security Advisor, Shri Ajit Kumar Doval.
The 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting is an important step towards strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Iran, and both countries look forward to further enhancing their cooperation in various fields.
