The US Department of State is hosting its 60th annual Foreign Affairs Day, which will take place on Friday, May 2. The event is open to active and retired employees of the Department of State and other Foreign Affairs agencies.
Senior Bureau Official Lew Olowski will host and deliver remarks at the opening plenary session of the event, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET in the Loy Henderson Auditorium. Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau will deliver the keynote address during the same time slot. In addition, Deputy Secretary Landau will give remarks at the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) Memorial Plaque Ceremony later that morning.
The AFSA Memorial Plaque Ceremony honors those who have lost their lives while serving overseas due to circumstances distinctive to the Foreign Service, including acts of violence or terrorism. The ceremony will be held at 10:15 a.m. ET in the C Street Lobby and is open to the press. Final access for video cameras, writers, and still photographers is available from 9:45 a.m. ET.
The event will also be streamed live on the State Department's YouTube channel. Media representatives can cover the Memorial Plaque Ceremony upon presentation of a valid form of identification, including a US Government-issued ID card or a media-issued photo identification card.
