France and UN Secretary-General Discuss Middle East Peace Process

Paris, July 30 – In a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres yesterday, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot reviewed the current situation in the Middle East, reiterating France’s commitment to the two-State solution. The discussion took place on the eve of the International Conference on the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.

The conference, held at UN headquarters in New York from July 28 to 29, brought together international leaders to discuss ways to achieve peace and security in the region. Minister Barrot emphasized that France’s recognition of the State of Palestine this September marks a significant new phase in the pursuit of a lasting resolution.

France reaffirmed its commitment to supporting UNIFIL’s mandate renewal negotiations scheduled for this August.

Iran Nuclear Program

Minister Barrot also addressed the issue of Iran’s nuclear program, noting that a lasting resolution would require a negotiated settlement within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. France expressed its readiness to contribute to this effort in cooperation with its partners.
