Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Strengthen Ties with Bahrain at ASEAN Summit

In a significant diplomatic development, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Thailand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, played a key role in fostering regional cooperation and strengthening ties with Bahrain during the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On May 26, 2025, Minister Sangiampongsa joined a bilateral discussion between H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand, and H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit.

During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on key regional and international issues, including the impact of U.S. import tariffs and support for the peace-building and recovery process in Myanmar following the recent earthquake. Thailand expressed its view that Bahrain could play a constructive role in ASEAN's efforts to address these challenges.

The Prime Minister also extended an invitation to H.R.H. the Crown Prince to pay an official visit to Thailand, highlighting the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

In addition, the Prime Minister underscored opportunities for Bahraini investment in Thailand's Landbridge project, which aims to connect the Indian and Pacific oceans. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation on connectivity and multi-modal transportation, while Bahrain expressed interest in serving as a cargo hub for Thai Airways, leveraging its strategic position for regional Air-to-Sea connectivity.

This meeting reflects Thailand's commitment to strengthening its relationships with key regional players like Bahrain, which is also an important player in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The visit showcases Thailand's role in promoting regional peace and stability while fostering economic growth through increased investment and cooperation.

The diplomatic engagement between Thailand and Bahrain underscores the country's efforts to navigate complex global issues and promote its strategic interests in the region.
