Singapore has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and economic integration through its active participation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forums.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Singapore will continue to play a leading role in promoting ASEAN’s single market and production base, as well as its economic corridor initiatives. This includes supporting the development of the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) and enhancing connectivity through the Southeast Asia Green Infrastructure Consortium.
In APEC, Singapore has been actively engaged in promoting regional trade liberalization, reducing non-tariff barriers, and fostering innovation. The country will continue to champion the APEC’s priorities on sustainable growth, trade facilitation, and digital economy.
Asean Secretariat Welcomes Singapore’s Leadership
At the 37th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan reiterated Singapore’s commitment to strengthening regional solidarity and promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia.
Singapore has also been a strong advocate for the implementation of the ASEAN Community Blueprint 2025, which aims to create a more integrated and cohesive region by 2025. The country will continue to support the development of ASEAN’s single market and production base, as well as its economic corridor initiatives.
APEC Chief Executives Meet in Singapore
The APEC Economic Committee’s (APECCE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Umana Yontian met with key stakeholders, including foreign ministers, business leaders, and civil society representatives, to discuss the region’s priorities for sustainable growth.
Singapore has been a champion of APEC’s work on trade facilitation, innovation, and digital economy. The country has also supported APEC’s efforts to promote regional economic integration through the establishment of the APEC Free Trade Area (FTA).
Minister Balakrishnan Meets with Cambodian Counterpart
During his visit to Cambodia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan met with his Cambodian counterpart, Sen Mony, to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
The two ministers discussed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia, as well as enhancing cooperation on issues such as counter-terrorism and cybersecurity.
