On November 29, 2023, the fourth annual Child Protection Compact( CPC) dialogue will take place between government representatives from the US and Peru as well as civil society and international organizations. Bryan Marcus, Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, Peruvian Vice Minister of Public Security Héctor Loayza Arrieta, and Dr. Aissa Tejada are among the key participants. Justin Davis also serves as Political Counselor at the American Embassy in Lima.
The U.S. Peru CPC Partnership aims to support the Peruvian government’s efforts to effectively look into, prosecute, and convict child traffickers. Additionally, it aims to stop child trafficking in all of its forms and to give children who have been the victims of these crimes comprehensive, trauma-informed care.
Government representatives and civil society partners will discuss their accomplishments and challenges from the previous year as they work toward the partnership’s mutually agreed-upon objectives during the dialogue. This conversation expands upon a workshop on co-creation that was held in October among the same organizations.
In order to support the partnership’s goals, the U.S. government has provided over$ 10 million in foreign aid to projects carried out by civil society and international organizations since 2017. In order to show its commitment to the partnership, the Peruvian government has built six specialized child trafficking shelters and expanded the number of dedicated prosecutors ‘offices. To increase efforts to prevent child trafficking and improve victim assistance and reintegration services in their respective regions, regional governments in Loreto and Cusco have also approved public investment projects.
