The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has learned with sadness of the passing of one of its former Foreign Service Officers, Mohammed Iqbal Degia, in the United States, after a brief illness.
His colleagues will remember Mohammed for his diligence in executing his assignments as well as his erudition, sharp intellect, the strength of his convictions, passionate embrace of principle and love for a good argument.
Mr. Degia’s association with the Ministry started with an Internship in the International Relations Division in 1997. He joined the Ministry’s staff in 2000.
Among other assignments, he served for five years at the Barbados Permanent Mission to the United Nations at New York where he strenuously advocated for Barbados’ positions in many areas, including human rights, sustainable development, climate change and the issues relating to Small Island Developing States. He resigned from the Barbados Foreign Service in 2016 to pursue other interests.
Senator Dr. the Honourable Jerome X. Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and the entire Barbados Foreign Service express heartfelt condolences to Mr. Degia’s wife Mosheera, his sisters, relatives and friends.

Change in the processing of applications to the Barbados Networker Programme
In-person interviews will be suspended until further notice. All Barbados Networker Programme applications and relevant documentation in support of the application must be submitted to the Consular Division of the Ministry via email: consular@foreign.gov.bb.
In the event that an applicant is unable to submit the application by email, a postal box is provided at the front of the Ministry’s office at Culloden Road, St. Michael, where the documents may be deposited.
The Office of Consular Division will process the application and respond to the applicant within 48 hours.
The Office of Consular Division will contact such applicants and make arrangements for the collection of the documents and relevant letters to the Customs and Excise Department from the receptionist at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Applicants who must come to the Ministry to collect documentation should not be accompanied by any other person unless they are directly party to the application process.
The Division is reminding applicants that it is their responsibility to ensure that the application documentation is fully completed before submission.
