Ambassador Walcott Presents Credentials Within Guatemala

On Monday, January 09, 2023, Ambassador Ian Walcott, offered his credentials to L. E. Mr. Alejandro Giammattei, President of the Republic of Guatemala, accrediting him since Barbados’ non-resident Ambassador to Guatemala.   Ambassador Walcott is resident in Panama.

[Photo credit: Government of Barbados] While in Guatemala, Ambassador Walcott also met with Mister. Mario Permuth, Barbados’ Honorary Consul, and Mr. Igal Permuth, the Hon. Vice Consul, to discuss matters concerning the advancement of Barbados’ interests in Guatemala. Barbados and Guatemala established diplomatic relations on January 27, 1992.   The following day time, January 10, 2023, Ambassador Walcott met with higher level officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, including Ms. Shirley Aguilar Barrera, Vice Minister intended for Foreign Affairs. They talked about proposed areas of cooperation among Barbados and Guatemala for example education, tourism, trade, sports activities, and culture. During the conversations, the Guatemalan officials announced the award of two scholarships pertaining to Barbadian diplomats to attend the Diplomatic Academy of Guatemala and also offered to donate a number of plants to the National Botanical Gardens.   Ambassador Walcott thanked the Guatemalan specialists on behalf of the Government and the People of Barbados.
