FOREIGN MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS AFRICA DAY

Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade captured first place in the group section of the recently held Africa Day online competition hosted by the Ministry of Culture on 25 May 2021.

The opportunity to participate in the competition was a welcomed activity, against the background that United Nations General Assembly, Resolution 68/237 which proclaimed the period 2015 to 2024 as the International Decade for People of African Descent.

Additionally, under the Ministry’s remit, Barbados will expand its diplomatic footprint and establish missions in Ghana and Kenya as part of the national effort toward economic reconstruction and business generation. 

In his remarks for Africa Day, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Division of Culture, the Honourable John King, said that with the mandate to build solidarity between the African countries and the diaspora, the celebration of Africa Day provided an opportunity to reflect and reconnect with our heritage. He added that his Ministry would continue to process of developing activities, projects and programmes aimed at educating Barbadians about  Africa’s contribution to world development and to promote acceptance of the very best of ourselves as people of African descent.
