South Korea pledges to strengthen its partnership with CEPI’s global health initiatives

South Korea reiterated its commitment to extending cooperation with CEPI in the area of global health during a recent meeting between Kweon Ki-hwan, the deputy minister for multilateral and global affairs, and Jane Halton, chair of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations( CEPI) Board.

Deputy Minister Kweon praised CEPI for playing a significant part in hastening the creation of COVID-19 vaccines and promoting fair access to them during the meeting on November 21. He expressed appreciation on behalf of the Korean government and expressed a strong desire to expand CEPI’s collaboration while stressing the significance of being ready for the emergence of infectious diseases, also known as Disease X.

The “100-Day Mission,” a global initiative of CEPI, was noted by Deputy Minister Kweon, who also stated that the Korean government would actively support efforts to increase global preparedness.

Jane Halton, the chair of the CEPI Board, responded by recognizing South Korea’s commitment and expressing its desire to improve ties with the Korean government, biotech firms, and small and medium-sized businesses( SMEs). She emphasized CEPI 2.0’s strategic phase( 2022–2026), during which the organization hopes to expand its support to include vaccine production in addition to research and development.

Chair Halton emphasized CEPI’s willingness to collaborate closely with South Korea to achieve shared goals during the CEIP 2.0 period as both parties discussed the potential for joint initiatives in addressing emerging infectious diseases.

The Korean government reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to work with international health organizations like CEPI. As a responsible member of the international community, it pledged to carry out its duties and fulfill its obligations in addressing issues relating to global health.
