The meeting was
attended also by Russian Foreign Ministry officials.

Dmitry
Chernyshenko noted that Russian-Vietnamese ties cover a wide range of issues in
politics, trade and the economy, scientific research and technology, as well as
culture and education.

“Vietnam is a reliable friend and
partner,” Dmitry Chernyshenko said. “Our relationship relies on a long-standing
tradition of mutually beneficial cooperation and mutual respect and enjoys the
status of a comprehensive strategic partnership. However, we believe that the
potential for cooperation has not been fully realised. Importantly, we must
continue to increase the volume of exports and imports, to step up the
implementation of joint investment projects and to identify new growth points
all at the same time.”

“I am grateful
for the kind words about Vietnam,”
Bui Thanh Son said. “Our countries are bound by a strong friendship. The
Vietnamese people have always highly valued relations with Russia. We appreciate your
assistance and share your strategic interests, which is why our president plans
to visit Russia
in November. Our prime minister has relations with Russia high on his list of
priorities and is ready to visit. Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh wants to meet with you as part of the
intergovernmental commission’s activities.”
