Contrasting Realities Mirrored in Campuses

National prosperity and development cannot be achieved apart from education, and teachers in direct charge of education can be compared to gardeners shaping the future of country.

It is from this reason that raising social awareness about the position and role of teachers has been considered vital by the countries of the world in all times.

In 1994, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization designated October 5 as World Teachers’ Day for the purpose of raising public awareness of the importance and significance of education in social development and enhancing the position and role of teachers.

The position and role of teachers are determined by for whom a given society carries out development and prosperity and for what the teachers are needed. Teachers’ qualifications and traits depend much on these factors as well.

In the socialist system of our country, where people are held up as Heaven and everything serves for the people, teachers are becoming the pioneers of the times with high sense of responsibility that rise and fall of the country and nation depend largely on their roles.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un holds teachers as vanguards in building a talent power and trustworthy revolutionaries who can be fully entrusted with the future of the country. Under his warm care, valuing education and respecting teachers are turning into a social trend throughout the country.

It is the universally acknowledged reality of our country that one new street is built to provide dwelling houses for teachers and scientists, preferential treatment policies on teachers are carried out in all fields of the society, and teachers are held in high esteem as deputies of the country who discuss the state affairs, and as heroes.

Out of the burning hearts to live up to these love and trust, there are couples who reliably discharge their responsibilities as teachers for decades, and there is an unknown girl teacher who has carried a paraplegic pupil on her back to school for years. There are also teachers of new generation who have volunteered to work at the schools in remote mountainous areas. These moving stories are the epics of love for people, love for coming generation which can be heard only in our socialist system.

By far contrast however, in the money-is-everything capitalist societies where the development of science and technology is pursued only for the interests and pleasure of a handful of rich class, the sacred campuses are turning into wild theatres which are begetting sad stories and tragedies of human rights violation.

A few years ago, education authorities of New York State reported that the psychological maltreatment and violence at the schools have increased by 60%, as compared to the previous period. Moreover, sexual violence against schoolchildren by teachers, as has been manifested a few days ago at a high school in California, has become common practices at the schools in the U.S., evoking grave concern of the society.

As has been made public to the world, 215 remains of indigenous schoolchildren were discovered at the ruins of a boarding school of indigenous children in Canada, showcasing the cruel feature of centuries-old racial extermination education. 95% of black schoolchildren in the UK and 30 % in Finland testified that they have experienced physical violence and inhumane insults at the schools.

New generations who love country and nation cannot be brought up and the development and prosperity of a state cannot be guaranteed at the schools where educators are making the most of campuses only for their existence, rather than from any sense of consciousness and mission, and are engrossed in the practices of immorality and depravity.

Through the differing features of contrasting educators, the world at large are now fully realizing that the genuine education required by the era and history can only be introduced in the system which serves for people, not for a handful of privileged class.
