Participation of the Republic of Moldova in the high-level segment of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council

22 February 2021, Chișinău – Interim – prime Minister, foreign minister Aureliu Ciocoi delivered a speech at the high-level segment of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which is taking place in videoconference format from 22 to 24 February. In his address, the head of the moldovan delegation spoke about the impact of the pandemic on human rights, in particular on vulnerable groups that have been most affected by the pandemic, and called on the international community to condemn human rights violations in the Transnistrian region of Moldova.

Aureliu Ciocoi pointed out that any measures to mitigate the effects of the pandemic must be based on respect for human rights, emphasizing the importance of the right to health, and in this regard, there is a need to strengthen international cooperation to ensure access to the vaccine for all.

During his speech, special attention was paid to the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, bringing to the attention of the international community the abuses of the alleged Transnistrian structures which have worsened even more under the pretext of the pandemic.

At the same time, the official referred to the actions of the Moldovan Government on the human rights dimension, as part of the efforts to achieve democratic reforms in our country. The video of the Moldovan official can be accessed on the UN Secretariat’s digital platform.
