Through consultations with foreign offices, India and Iran bolster their ties

On November 26, 2023, Dr. Ali Bagheri Kani, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s deputy foreign minister for political affairs, and Shri Vinay Kwatra, foreign secretary, co-chaired the 18th India-Iran Foreign Office Consultations( FOC) in Tehran.

The in-depth discussions covered a wide range of topics related to the bilateral relationship, including capacity-building initiatives, political engagements, trade and economic issues, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties, agriculture cooperation, and connectivity projects like the Chabahar port.

With a focus on developments in Afghanistan and Gaza, the two sides also discussed current regional and international issues. Iran’s active participation in the Voice of Global South Summits held throughout the year was recognized by the Indian delegation.

H. E. Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s foreign minister, and Foreign Secretary Kwatra met during the visit to discuss bilateral issues and current regional issues. To further strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties, he also met with Dr. Mehdi Safari, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for economic diplomacy. The consultations help to improve India and Iran’s communication and understanding.
