Third Fellowship Program in Disarmament and International Security Affairs

The third disarmament and international security fellowship program, which will be run by the Ministry of External Affairs at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service in New Delhi from January 9 to January 27, 2023, was launched by Shri Sanjay Verme, Secretary (West) of that ministry. The fellowship program is being attended by young diplomats from 30 different nations.

Participants in the fellowship program will learn about India and various facets of its foreign policy as well as topics related to modern disarmament, non-proliferation, arms control, and international security affairs. Leading experts on a variety of topics, including the environment for global security, weapons of mass destruction, specific conventional weapons, security in space, cybersecurity, export controls, and cutting-edge technologies, give presentations and participate in simulation exercises. To give the fellows a first-hand look at India’s civil nuclear and civil space programs, it also includes visits to facilities run by the Department of Atomic Energy of India and the Indian Space Research Organization.

The fellowship program complies with the UN General Assembly’s resolution, “United Nations study on disarmament and non-proliferation education,” and is consistent with UN Secretary General of the United Nations’ “Securing our Common Future” emphasis on “Disparment Education.”

The program’s first and second editions were held in January 2019 and 2020, respectively.
