Remarks by Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, at the 45th Ministerial Meeting of the G-77 plus China held against the backdrop of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly

November 30, 2021

Mr. Chairman,

We congratulate the Republic of Guinea on its performance as Chair of the Group of 77 plus China, and we wish every success to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the discharge of its duties.

The world has been shocked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the effects of which have exacerbated inequalities and exclusion.

The developing countries have faced an increase in their unsustainable foreign indebtedness, a contraction of their business activity and fragility in their healthcare and social protection systems as a result of the irrational and unsustainable capitalist patterns of production and consumption and decades of neoliberal policies. These countries are under the worst conditions to facing climate change.

Also causes of concern are the existing attempts to undermine multilateralism and the principles and purposes enshrined in the UN Charter, the proliferation of unconventional wars and the recurrent imposition of unilateral coercive measures.

We thank the G-77 for their strong support to end the blockade imposed by the US Government against Cuba, opportunistically intensified in the midst of pandemic, in addition to the millions of resources that this country dedicates to overthrow our constitutional order.

In spite of these difficulties, our country has developed a strategy to stem and fight COVID-19. We further look forward to achieve full immunization for our people before the end of 2021.

Cuba will not give up its vocation for solidarity-based cooperation and humanism, particularly to tackle the pandemic.

Let us continue to work together for the right of our peoples to peace, development, social justice, self-determination and a democratic, just and equitable international order.

Thank you very much.
