President of the Friendship Group with Cuba in the Finnish Parliament supports an increase of the ties with the Caribbean Island

Helsinki, June 15th. – The President of the Friendship Group with Cuba in the Finnish Parliament and deputy for the Green Party, Heli Järvinen, paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Finland.

During the fraternal meeting, the will of both parties to consolidate and deepen inter-parliamentary political dialogue was reiterated, as a base element for the successful development of bilateral relations between both countries.

Järvinen gave the acting head of mission a copy of the book: “Democracy yesterday, today and tomorrow: The Finnish Parliament”, which recreates the evolution of the legislative body, through the different historical stages, through which it has gone the Nordic country since its independence in 1917 and up to the present day.

The Charge D’Affaires AI of Cuba in this capital, Víctor M. Rodríguez Etcheverry, took the opportunity to update his counterpart on the situation of the corona virus on the Island, which has been aggravated by the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade of States United against Cuba. Likewise, Rodríguez Etcheverry emphasized the 243 additional upsurge measures imposed by the previous Trump administration, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic year and still in force. These external pressures have severely affected the economy and the ability to have more resources to face the epidemic. However, they have not been able to prevent the Greater Antilles from dedicating all the potential of its health system to provide specialized care to Cuban patients, developing 5 100% Cuban vaccine candidates or maintaining one of the indexes lowest number of infected and deceased in the region.

Also participating in the meeting was, on the Finnish side, Meerit Jallow, Parliamentary Assistant and secretary of the Friendship Group with Cuba in the Finnish national legislative body.
