President of Namibia calls for the lifting of the “inhuman sanctions” against Cuba in a message by the end of the year.

Namibia, January 1st, 2022- H.E. Dr. Hage Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, called for the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, in his speech to the Namibian people for the end of the year 2021. In the same way, he called for the improvement of relations between the United States and Cuba.

The verbatim words of President Geingob were:

“Furthermore, we hope to see new dawn signifying improved relations between the United States of America and the Republic of Cuba. In this regard, we call on inhumane sanctions to be lifted against the people of Cuba.”

The speech of the Namibian Head of State is in line with his country’s position of historical solidarity towards Cuba and with the very high level of relations between Windhoek and Havana.

President Geingob spoke in similar terms in his speech at the last General Debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held between September 21 and 27, 2021.

Similarly, the also President of SWAPO, Namibia’s ruling party and former national liberation movement, called for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to guarantee the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

In his speech, he also referred to the effects caused in the country by the incidence of Covid-19 and the measures taken by his government to mitigate them, as well as the economic development strategies to be implemented in 2022.
