Cuba supports important work to continue consolidating the “unity in diversity” of Our Bolivarian and Martian America

Statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, during the XXII Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Buenos Aires, Argentina, January 7, 2022.

His Excellency Mr. Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Secretary of Foreign Relations of the United Mexican States;

His Excellency Mr. Santiago Andrés Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Relations, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic;

Dear Foreign Ministers, Heads of Delegations, National Coordinators and guests, friends, all of you:

We are pleased to meet, in this beautiful city of Buenos Aires, to celebrate the transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC to the Argentine Republic, to which we wish the greatest success and we assure the support of Cuba in the important work of continuing to consolidate the “Unity in diversity” of Our Bolivarian and Martian America.

We express our support and solidarity to the Republic of Argentina in its just claim to the International Monetary Fund for the solution of the fraudulent and illegal inherited debt that burdens its people.

We reaffirm Cuba’s support for Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.

We wish to acknowledge the commendable management carried out by fraternal Mexico, during these almost two years of the Pro Tempore Presidency, to revitalize the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and maintain its activism, amidst the multiple challenges generated by the pandemic. The successful celebration of the VI Summit of Heads of State and Government, which President Miguel Díaz-Canel had the honor of attending, the conclusion of the reflection process and the timely initiatives to advance towards regional recovery, are just a few examples that confirm the laudable results achieved during this stage, which will contribute to enriching the heritage of our Community.

Dear colleagues:

We reiterate the firm will to preserve CELAC as a genuinely Latin American and Caribbean mechanism for political agreement. We ratify the unwavering commitment to regional integration and the full validity of the postulates of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace. Faced with the complex international and hemispheric scenario that we face, a united and supportive region is essential, which can defend, with one voice, its interests of peace, independence, sovereign equality, sustainable development and social justice.

Thanks a lot

Buenos Aires, Argentina. January 7, 2022.
