Number of anti-Covid-19 doses administered in Cuba rises

Havana, 18 January 2022. A total of 32 million 942 thousand 89 doses of national vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, have been administered in Cuba to date, the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) reported today.

According to Minsap, 10 million 526 thousand 575 people received one dose of the Cuban immunizers, while 9 million 328 thousand 259 have already received the second dose and 8 million 988 thousand 331 the third.

Nine million 772,152,152 citizens, representing 87.4 percent of the Cuban population, have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, the source said.

The country is currently accelerating the process of the booster dose, which will not only increase the number of memory cells, but also of higher quality, thus boosting antibodies with better neutralizing capacity.

Cuba’s immunogens are safe, with no serious adverse effects, and this strategy, which is carried out in a staggered manner, aims at achieving greater protection against new strains and the flexibilization measures.

The president of BioCubaFarma, Eduardo Martinez announced that Cuba is advancing designs of specific immunogens against the Omicron variant of the virus.
