Namibia’s Minister of Defense receives the Cuban Ambassador.

Namibia, August 11th, 2021- Hon. Frans Kapofi, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of Namibia, received Sidenio Acosta Aday, Ambassador of Cuba to this African country.

At the meeting, both exchanged on the status of bilateral cooperation in various sectors and explored other ways to strengthen it.

Ambassador Acosta explained the epidemiological situation in Cuba and the efforts of the island’s government and people to control the Covid-19 pandemic. In this sense, he explained the development of the two Cuban vaccines against the virus and the phase in which there are three other vaccine candidates against the same disease.

The Cuban diplomat also denounced the international campaign orchestrated against Cuba from the United States. He condemned the intensification of the blockade and the aggressions against his country. He also thanked Namibia for its historical support to Cuba and highlighted the recent Declaration of the Namibian Government of solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.

For his part, Minister Kapofi highlighted the historical ties of brotherhood that unite both nations, founded in the years of the struggle for the liberation of Namibia from the South African apartheid regime. He reiterated the solidarity of his country towards Cuba and condemned the attacks against the Caribbean country.

Frans Kapofi has held different portfolios in the Namibian government. As Minister of Presidential Affairs, he accompanied Vice President Nangolo Mbumba to commemorative events for the 40th Anniversary of the Cassinga Massacre, held in Cuba in 2018.

Also present at the meeting were Juan Carlos Oliva Núñez, economic counselor to the Cuban Embassy, ​​and senior officials from the Namibian Defense Forces.
